I just started working out and sometimes I feel a bit drained after. I don't want to muck up my diet either so I am trying to think of a snack that can give me back some energy I lost and keep me going without over indulging in too many calories. Anyone have some suggestions for me? I mainly focus on cardio.
You can do something like crackers and cheese. Just don't overdue it but cheese is suppose to be very helpful for recovery because of the healthy fats, calcium, and vitamin D3 in it. Go for white cheese since they are leaner and less in calories.
If you are going to have carbs or sweets, this is a good time to have them. I like to have ice cream after I workout to help my body cool down and to kill my sweet tooth so I don't eat anything sweet later in the evening.
I like to keep it plain and simple and eat some easy carbs like white rice. I will just eat plain white rice with a bit of butter and salt. The salt is good for electrolytes and the rice will be burned off quickly.
I live to eat deviled eggs. You can have 2 hole eggs (or 4 deviled eggs) and the calories when prepared right only ends up being about 250 which is great for a post workout snack.
I tend to just reach for fruit and cheese. I know it is a strange combination but it seems to work for me. I buy those cheese cubes or stock up on the blocks and cut them myself. One of my favorite combos is a sliced apple with mozzarella.
