Oatmeal as a post workout snack?


I grew up eating oatmeal and loved it but when I went to college I stopped eating it. Now that I am trying to lose all the weight I gained in college and at my new desk job, I am wondering if I should make eating it a habit again. Is it a good snack to have after working out?

Yeah this is a good meal, you just have to keep it healthy. Don't load it up with sugar or other junk. Opt for fresh fruit and organic honey, things of that nature. Some people like to add seeds and nuts to the oatmeal as well.

It can be a snack or a meal. Either way I believe it is a healthy option. You can add fruit and nuts into it make it even better. I like to enjoy it more in the winter vs the summer but if you don't mind it in the warmer months, go for it!

I think oat meal is fine in and of itself but as I mentioned in another thread, the quality of oats these days isn't the best. If you do decide to eat oatmeal get organic brands and avoid sugar ones.

It is low in calories and has a lot of nutritional value. I think if you are going to eat any kind of grains/oats, oatmeal is one of the better options. You can even mix in some wheat germ to add more value to the snack.

My grandmother always made me eat this when I was spend the night there as a child. Every morning without fail, I would have oatmeal with berries in it and a touch of maple syrup. I actually loved it but because I ate it so much growing up, I grew sick of it. I do try to eat it now and then as a healthy snack but I tend to go with the packet kinds which you don't want to be eating.
