I was doing a bit of reading a lot of people seem to recommend it. Some say you need to add some protein powder to it but the fiber content helps with energy sustainability as well as keeps things moving when you have a high protein diet going. Thoughts on oatmeal as a post workout snack?
I'd say it depends on the oatmeal. If you are just eating plain oatmeal, that would be fine I am sure but I would recommend adding in something like bananas, berries, and a bit of milk. Just avoid the packaged flavor kind since those are very high in sugar.
Yes, I believe it is. It has a nice amount of minerals and other nutrients in it. Just don't overdo it with the sugar and sweets that are commonly used in oatmeal and you should be fine.
Plain yes, the sugar kinds, not so much. I tend to avoid oatmeal these days myself as I have read that the quality has gone down hill and they aren't as regulated for health and safety.
If it is something you enjoy, I would say to go for it. Oatmeal is generally low in calories, high in fiber, and because of its nutrition it makes a great post workout meal or snack for repair.
I was never big on oat meal but started eating it to lower my blood pressure a few years ago and it worked. But something I noticed as well is that I did manage to lose 15 pounds in only 2 months of adding it to my diet so for me, I think it is a great meal to eat post workout.
