I read and heard so many times over the years that bananas will make you fat. I am not sure why or where that even started but now I am always seeing people recommending bananas before you workout. Are bananas okay to eat when you are on a diet if you are trying to lose weight?
You have to eat a lot of bananas for them to actually cause weight gain. Bananas are actually considered one of the best foods to eat before working out because they give the body natural sugar for energy and potassium which helps nerves and muscles.
Someone used to tell me this all the time and he was convinced that it was the truth. I asked a dietitian last year about it and she told me that it is silly. You would have to eat an insane amount of bananas to have them cause weight gain.
No!! Don't be silly. You would have to eat a lot of bananas for this to happen. Compare a banana to an average size health bar. The banana is lighter, leaner, and offers natural nutrition.
Bananas are amazing for health and weight loss. A friend of mine switched from eating yogurt to a banana with his lunches at work and lost 5 pounds in a month. He didn't change anything else.
You will still lose weight. I think this was a rumor from the 90's that stuck around because people who were overweight tended to eat bananas as their only fruit.
